Blood pressure measurements

When your heart beats, it pumps blood round your body to give it the energy and oxygen it needs. As the blood moves, it pushes against the sides of the blood vessels. The strength of this pushing movement is called your blood pressure. If your blood pressure is too high, it puts extra strain on your arteries (and your heart) and this may lead to heart attacks and strokes.

Heart rate monitoring

Heart rate, also known as pulse, is the number of times a person’s heart beats per minute. Normal heart rate varies from person to person, but a normal range for adults is 60 to 100 beats per minute.

Fat % measurements

The skinfold estimation methods are based on a skinfold test, we use a 6 skinfold measurement and calculate your fat %, fat mass and lean body mass form there.

Height and Weight

Measured with a wall mounted measuring tape and a regularly callibrated medical grade scale.

Lung Peak flow test

Peak flow measurement is a quick test to measure air flowing out of the lungs.

Physical work capacity tests

The Physical Work Capacity test evaluates the capacity of an individual to perform physically demanding work tasks.

Waist and Hip measurements

Using a tape measure to check the distance around the smallest part of your waist, just above your navel, and the distance around the largest part of your hips. This is used to calculate your waist-hip ratio, used as a measurement of obesity, which in turn is a possible indicator of other more serious health conditions.

Step test / Fitness assessments

The Step Test is designed to measure a person’s aerobic fitness.

Cholesterol and Glucose testing

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood. Your body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells, but high levels of cholesterol can increase your risk of heart disease. With high cholesterol, you can develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels.

A blood glucose test measures the amount of glucose in your blood. It may be used to help diagnose or monitor diabetes.

Orthopedic Services

Mobility assessments

This is the degree to which a joint (where two bones meet) can move before being restricted by surrounding tissues (ligaments/tendons/muscles etc.). Mobility of a joint is important to allow better efficiency of these joints so that their movements are not compromised and they need to be strong so that they move better and in the right position. If a joint is stiff there is less ability for the muscle to move the joint through its normal range of motion.

Strength assessments

Muscular strength is defined as the maximum amount of force that a muscle can exert against some form of resistance in a single effort. Muscular strength and endurance are important for many reasons. It increases your ability to do activities of daily living without getting injured or fatigued quickly.

Posture assessments

Postural analysis look at your static posture to see if there are any imbalances that could cause or are causing pain and discomfort. Our postural assessments also include manual tests that check how well your muscles and joints are working together and if there are any imbalances to be corrected.

Stretching

Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a certain range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight.

Strength exercises

Strength training is a type of physical exercise specializing in the use of resistance to induce muscular contraction, which builds the strength, anaerobic endurance, size of skeletal muscles and bone density.

Taping techniques

We are qualified in mutliple taping techniques, including dynamic taping and Kinesio taping. Dynamic Tape is innovative, 4-way stretching tapes with strong elastic resistance and recoil of varying grades, absorb and inject force to reduce the workload on the muscle or joint. Kinesio tape is also used to support injured muscles or joints without restricting full range of motion in individuals with neurological disorders. It helps to aid in faster muscle recovery, prevents cramps or spasms, prevents over-stretching or over-contraction of muscles, and also enhances muscle tone and strength.

Core exercises

Core exercises train the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen to work in harmony. This leads to better balance and stability, whether on the playing field or in daily activities.

PAB system

PAB® stands for Pressure Air Biofeedback and uses air, to measure muscle performance in a simple and scientific way. PAB® is a portable, inexpensive device, used for clinical and high-performance testing including biofeedback while exercising. PAB® measures strength as well as various other physical parameters in a valid and reliable way.

Kids Exercise

Kids exercise classes

The purpose of the kids exercise classes is to start introducing the kids to the gym environment and also to teach them about the endless benefits of exercise. The exercises range from pure cardio (fitness) sessions to core strenghtening and large muscle group strengthening. We keep the classes fun and exciting with fitness games so that they can also fall in love with being active and healthy.

H2O Rehabilitation & Exercises

H2O rehabilitation and exercises

Hydrotherapy is the use of water in the treatment of different clinical as well as orthopaedic conditions, including arthritis and related rheumatic complaints. Hydrotherapy differs from swimming because it involves special exercises that you do in a warm-water pool.
